    You probably already know there’s no such thing as a silencer for firearms. It’s called a suppressor because it lessens the sound of gunshots. It doesn’t eliminate them. A question arises for self-defense minded gun owners: Does a suppressor also suppress the performance of the bullet fired, not only the sound of it? Rob Pincus does some gel testing to answer this.

    Using a suppressed 4-inch 9mm handgun, Rob shoots two rounds: a 124-grain +P 9mm (a supersonic round) and a 147-grain subsonic round. Which round is superior for defensive purposes?
