Product Review: Viridian Green Lasers

I'm here at the Viridian Laser booth at the NRA show looking at the Viridian Green Laser systems. Now, you may have seen some green lasers on the market and they're becoming more popular, but Viridian was the company that pioneered the green laser. The reason green lasers are so useful, it has a laser sighting system on a, either a handgun or a rifle like I'm holding here, is because the green laser is much brighter than the typical red lasers you're going to find on most systems. Now, the human eye is most sensitive in the center of the color spectrum which is where the color green is. Now, the red lasers that are on the market are on the far end of the color spectrum where the human eye is less sensitive.

The net result is that the green laser looks 50 times brighter to the human eye than the red lasers do. This means that they're visible in daylight and they're visible against a wider range of target colors. Now, I've been using the Viridian Laser light combination on my own rifle for several months now and I've grown to really appreciate not only the green laser color and it's visibility in daylight and in fact, against in all lighting conditions, but the combination of laser and white light on a rifle makes a lot of sense because in one unit, I can have both white light for certain target identification and then the green laser for very rapid sighting, even in relatively dim, low-light lighting conditions, or in very close quarters. The Viridian Laser of course has a remote pad here that you can set the activation anywhere you want on your rifle and it has two activators so you can set each one for different modes. Now, you can have blinking laser, blinking light, solid laser, solid light, light only, laser only, blinking laser only, blinking light-- Basically whatever you want, you can set up the Viridian Laser to do.

Wonderful product, I really like it on my rifle and it makes a terrific adjunct to a red dot scope on your defensive rifle. Now, Viridian started out of course making the Viridian Lasers for handguns. The great thing that Viridian does with their handgun lasers is INSTANT-ON activation. Now, on a lot of lasers of course, you have to push switches or you have to grip switches or you have to do something to turn the laser on. And you can forget to turn it on, you can forget to turn it off, all kinds of issues.

Now, what Viridian does is INSTANT-ON technology. They're magnetically activated so that when you draw your Viridian laser-equipped pistol out of the holster, it automatically turns on. When you put it back in the holster, it automatically turns off. It's INSTANT-ON the second it comes out of the holster. Now, the way that they achieve this magic is through magnetic activation.

There's a magnet built into the holster that the laser unit senses and as soon as it breaks that contact, the laser goes on. Now, of course they have their own line of holsters that you can get, the Viridian Holsters. They are also working with other holster manufacturers to incorporate this magnetic switching into their designs and they have a retrofit kit so that you can apply the laser or, excuse me, the magnet to your own holster so that when you draw your hun from your holster, it automatically turns the laser on. Great product from Viridian. Now, Viridian is made in the United States.

They're a proud company, a proud United States company and like I said, they are the innovators in green laser systems. So, if you're in the market for a laser system or a laser light combination, take a good look at Viridian and look at the advantages of the Green Laser.
