Patriot Ordnance Factory Renegade Plus
Rob PincusDescription
Being a direct-impingement (gas-operated) gun, the Patriot Ordnance Factory Renegade Plus is a bit lighter than their piston-driven offerings. It’s a traditional AR-type setup. Similar to their other rifles, the 5.56 rifle has an ambidextrous magazine release and bolt release, as well as their innovative inside-the-trigger-guard bolt lock-open device.
Fully Featured
The Renegade Plus is incredibly well-made and comes fully featured from the factory. It has an M-LOK rail, ambidextrous quick-detach setup for a sling, a minimalist stock and grip from Mission First Tactical, and oversized Tomahawk ambidextrous charging handle. The barrel length is 16.5 inches.
Just like the Revolution, the bolt in the Renegade Plus has the roller cam, which means much less friction and less wear and tear on the upper receiver and the parts inside the bolt. Because a lot of people still like it, the Renegade Plus does have a forward assist, unlike a lot of POF-USA’s guns.
The Renegade Plus has one of POF-USA’s drop-in triggers, a 4.5-pound trigger. POF-USA is known for their drop-in triggers. This one is a smooth single-stage trigger with constant pressure.
A Renegade Plus is out on the 2018 PDN Training Tour as a loaner gun, so look for it if you’re taking one of the rifle training classes.
Summary
The Patriot Ordnance Factory Renegade Plus is a direct-impingement gas rifle in 5.56mm. If you’re in the market for a high-end, fully featured AR with ambidextrous controls and some nice upgrades, you won’t be disappointed with it.
