Knife Defense Session 4: Knife Carry Methods
Alessandro PadovaniDescription
Let's look at where to carry our knives. Right, normally people, and I see it over and over, you know, people carry a knife in the strong side pocket, right. And they call it good, which is, you know it makes sense if that's the only weapon that you carry but I want you to start to think about it a little bit more critically, right. There is no guarantee that I'm going to be able to access my strong side all of the time. Let's say I'm fighting with somebody and now I'm pushed against a wall, you know, bent over a table, hood of a car and I can not access this, right?
So it behooves us, if you're carrying folders to maybe carry two, right? So here I'm bent over. I cannot reach this, this knife, but if I can get enough control I can reach to my off side and pull out my other knife and use it to defend myself more efficiently. So it's important if you choose to carry folders because you prefer, or because in your state or county it's not legal to conceal a fixed blade, make sure that you think about it and carry two. And again, you may not want to carry two knives, make sure that you still have a tool that you can use to defend yourself, right?
It may be a flashlight. It may be a pen, you know, a solid pen, but have another option, right? The same concept applies if you're a concealed carry person. A lot of the Personal Defense Network students might be. So if I'm carrying my gun on my strong side over here, does it make sense to carry my knife on the strong side as well?
If it's a lethal threat, I'm going to use the gun if I can. If I can't use the gun, chances are because I'm fighting again because you know I'm fighting off somebody. I'm turned, I'm on the ground. If I can't really reach my gun, the chances are I'm not going to be able to reach my knife. There is not much difference here.
So it behooves me to have a knife on the other side, if I can, or even better if I can carry a concealed fixed blade I can carry a concealed fixed blade center line. So around this area, which allows me to reach it with my weak hand. And it allows me to reach it with my strong hand as well. So if you carry a fixed blade, think about it, carrying center line. On the opposite side of your weapon.
If you carry a weapon as well, or just center line on your strong side if you don't have a CCW permit, or if you are in a place where you're not allowed to carry your firearm.
