Duration:   3  mins

Description

Freedom Munitions 115-grain hollow point bullet in 9mm is designed for consistency and is a good choice for competition shooting and as handgun training and practice ammo. However, Rob Pincus doesn’t recommend it for defensive purposes, and he does a gel test with the round to show why. No spoilers here – watch the video to see the conclusive results. And trust Rob when he says that not all hollow points are created equal, and that this Freedom Munitions round is an excellent and economical choice for practice ammo.

This is Freedom munitions, 115 grain hollow point bullet in nine millimeter. Uh We have to remember that not all hollow points are meant for personal defense. Important to remember that obviously some bigger handgun calibers, you might have hunting hollow points that are designed to not expand as much penetrate more deeply. Um This particular round is made for consistency when it comes to competition particularly and of course, it'll give you some practice AM O that might have the same feed dynamics of the hollow point rounds that you're gonna use when you actually do carry for defensive purposes. Now, freedom does have an ex deaf round. This is not that this is an extreme bullet. The extreme bullet is a lead swage bullet that is shaped and then copper plated, electro chemically copper plated and then reshaped again for consistency. And that's the main reason that someone would want this hollow point if they want to use it for competition or other situations where they're going to be either shooting tight groups consistently with their handgun, or they're gonna need to know exactly where they're gonna be putting rounds on steel from one shot to the next to win the plaques and get all the adoration that they get when they do the competition shooting. I wanna make sure that you, my audience and personal defense network understands that freedom munitions makes incredible practice ammo. They do have some defensive options, but this isn't one of them and we're gonna do a gel test to show exactly why not. All hollow points are created equal. This one is not created for personal defense. Let's take a look and see what it does in the jail. All right, let's take a look at what we got. So as usual, we get uh through the t-shirt and as we look at the track, we can definitely see that we had some expansion here of the bullet, but it tore right through all 20 inches. So if we got expansion, uh we can see the permanent wound cavity, as we say in here, it's just about a half an inch or so. Uh not quite, probably double the expansion that we would look for. Normally, not quite double the normal diameter of the bullet. Uh So not a lot of expansion and particularly it looks like one side and this is typical of a plate at hollow point. So we shot through 20 inches of gel. I'm gonna go back and take another shot. Let me reset our uh clothing here and let's see what happens with the next one. So again, what we see is full penetration 20 inches all the way through. So we're gonna call that the results that we can expect from the freedom munitions, extreme copper plated hollow point. Now again, this is not optimally what we generally look for because we want to keep the bullet inside of the body cavity, of the threat that we're needing to stop. If however, you're looking for a hollow point bullet, you know, for example, for a hunting situation, then this depth of penetration might be more important to you. Of course, you know, the hide on something like a boar is going to be a lot heavier than this two layers of light cotton t shirt that we're shooting through into this jail block. Whenever you look for a hollow point, you have to balance out a lot of different factors. You think about any kind of round that you're going to carry for defense and again, freedom munitions offering this at, at a very, very economical price, 50 rounds a box, uh significantly less than $15 per box. The last time I looked at their website, this is the extreme bullet, copper plated lead hollow point from freedom munitions.
