Realtors arm themselves 'just in case'

A recently released 2018 report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) showed that 33 percent of those surveyed experienced a situation that made them fear for their safety. Five percent reported they’d been the victim of a crime while working in the real estate industry. That has lead to leaders of the organization to speak up on behalf of the members:

“We many times meet people in places that could put ourselves in peril,” said John Smaby, President of the National Association of Realtors.

“I think safety should be top of mind every day, for every realtor,” he said. More and more stories about realtors arming themselves and getting training are being told among the industry’s realtors on social media and in news stories across the country.

After recent events have gained media attention, more and more people in this profession are realizing that they are easy targets to some – with their flashy cars, watches, jewelry and more. These have become easy ways to spot realtors. Add in the public nature of open houses…. and many are acting to defend against a potential threat.

Here is another take on the topic from 20/20 news that they call “REAL ESTATE ROULETTE”:

What do you think? Should realtors be able to conceal carry in states that normally prohibit them to do so? Leave a comment here or on our Facebook page!
