Encountering slide lock or a malfunction in a defensive shooting scenario makes an already bad situation even worse. Block Two of the Intuitive Defensive Shooting class teaches students to recognize a gun stoppage and to respond in the most efficient way possible to get the gun running again while maintaining focus on the threat. To break the habit of reloading or clearing a malfunction administratively, and to develop positive stimulus-response behavior, students learn to integrate spontaneous reload and malfunction situations during their practice sessions. Additionally, advanced drills for shooting defensively from a retention position are practiced, and the benefits of using a laser as a tertiary aiming device, instead of kinesthetic alignment or sighted fire, are demonstrated.
