The fundamental principles that support the methods and techniques of this reality-based defensive firearm training program are carefully described, and they set the stage for the instruction that follows. Understanding and practicing the foundational concepts presented in this Block of training, including Visualization, Lateral Movement, Malfunction Stimulus Response, and the Balance of Speed and Precision, are critical for successfully advancing through the more complex techniques and drills that follow in the class.
Rob Pincus discusses Fundamentals of Intuitive Defensive Shooting and answers members questions.
Encountering slide lock or a malfunction in a defensive shooting scenario makes an already bad situation even worse. Block Two of the Intuitive Defensive Shooting class teaches students to recognize a gun stoppage and to respond in the most efficient way possible to get the gun running again while maintaining focus on the threat. To break the habit of reloading or clearing a malfunction administratively, and to develop positive stimulus-response behavior, students learn to integrate spontaneous reload and malfunction situations during their practice sessions. Additionally, advanced drills for shooting defensively from a retention position are practiced, and the benefits of using a laser as a tertiary aiming device, instead of kinesthetic alignment or sighted fire, are demonstrated.
Rob Pincus discusses Emergency Gun Handling and answers members questions.
Breaking the mold of traditional range practice, this lesson addresses the chaotic and unpredictable realities that occur in most defensive shooting situations as students practice their shooting skills in a variety of unconventional stances, distances and positions. Students experience the challenge of controlling deviation at extended distances and in one-handed shooting situations, further demonstrating the importance of the fundamental aspects of defensive shooting skill development covered in Block One. Rob Pincus examines each student’s shooting performance under a variety of conditions and provides diagnostic feedback that helps students make corrections in their shooting technique. Additionally, students are put through a Flow Drill which combines dynamic movement with unpredictable shooting commands, often forcing students to shoot from unorthodox positions. Block Three concludes with a Class Debrief question and answer session and final thoughts.
Rob Pincus discusses Unorthodox Shooting Positions & Diagnosing Deviation Issues and answers members questions.
